If lift companies want to maintain their good position in the future, they have to establish their own trainee programmes and recruit the next generation of lift specialists: like any other industry, the lift sector must accept that businesses should be advertising for applicants, and not vice versa.

This is precisely where VFA Interlift steps in with its ‘Promotion of Skilled Workers and the Next Generation’ workshop: by collaborating with VFA members, it develops a marketing package which helps member companies to fulfil this task so that employees can be systematically recruited. At the same time, VFA Interlift supports its members with increased PR work and the anchoring of a ‘cool’ image for the lift sector amongst young people and anybody who’s thinking of switching to a new career. The focus here is on the wide range of secure and attractive jobs offered by VFA member companies.

In order to familiarise school leavers with the advantages the lift sector can provide, VFA Interlift has produced a recruitment film entitled Hold-up in the Lift which provides information about the lift sector and its many job opportunities in a way that’s likely to appeal to Generation Z.

An image film for the lift sector has also been created, and VFA members can individualise it for their own marketing initiatives by inserting their own logo.

The intention of both films is to use social media channels to achieve PR work and convey the positive aspects of the lift sector when young people and any other interested parties come to choosing a profession. The final credits of the recruitment film mention the ‘next generation’ site and additional VFA domain entitled www.lift-me-up.de.

This website aims to inform school leavers and people from other sectors who are seeking a change of career about the lift sector and its wide variety of job profiles. This is a place where anyone who’s interested can obtain a wealth of information about training and ongoing education and the diverse opportunities that the lift sector can offer them. VFA members can advertise their current training places and internships as well as job vacancies on this website, and the offers that are published can be sorted according to region and provider. This service enables school leavers and career switchers to rapidly find job vacancies in their vicinity and directly contact the relevant companies.

One further component of VFA’s ‘next generation’ initiative is participation in careers fairs, thereby enabling jobseekers to see VFA member companies as an option for their future profession. Highly motivated trainees from VFA member companies support VFA’s Fairs Team and inform school students and their parents about their own experiences and the companies where they’re completing their training. In return for a lump sum to cover expenses, VFA makes its mobile Fair Stand available to any individual member company if it wants to take part in regional recruitment and training fairs. This allows members to optimally present their company and its training offers with a minimum expenditure of time and effort. VFA can provide comprehensive information material to accompany this.

“It’s vital for us that young people should become interested in the lift sector and make contact with our member companies. Participation in recruitment and training fairs represents a splendid opportunity to highlight the training our members can offer,” says Birgit Zaunegger, VFA Board Member for Press and PR Work.
