Lifts Directive 2014/33/EU

The Lifts Directive is working well, no need for revision. If necessary, changes will be reflected in the Guide of Application of the Lifts Directive.

Guide of Application to the Lifts Directive

The document is a living document. Only one language version so far, English, as it is easier to update only one version. The Commission will however consider the translation in the two other working languages (French and German) at a later stage, timing not defined. The German associations VFA/VDMA have already ensured a translation of the Guide into German.

Survey on the revision of the Machinery Directive as made in 2017

There are points that may need to be improved in the Machinery Directive (e.g. artificial intelligence). A political decision is expected shortly whether the Machinery Directive will be reviewed or not. If the decision is to review the MD, the revised version is not expected before 2020-2021.

Relationship between DOW (Date of Withdrawal of the Standard) of DOCOPOCOSS (Date of Cessation of Presumption of Conformity of the Superseded Standard)

There is so far no link between these two dates; therefore the situation of reference standard may prove difficult, one standard being applicable at the date of the order of the lift and another standard being applicable when the lift is installed, sometimes years after the order. It was proposed to the Commission to not consider the date of CE mark but rather the date of order signed by the customer. The Commission is reluctant but could consider the issue in a transversal way as the issue is not only relating to the lift industry but also to other industrial sectors.
