The Voice of the Lift, Escalator and Moving Walk Industry in Europe

In the frame of the publication of the new Lifts Directive 2014/33/EU, CEN TC 10 is revising several standards for passenger and goods passenger lifts. The starting point was the revision of EN 81-1&2, now published in 2014 as EN 81-20 & 50. Several other EN 81 standards considered as complementary standards to EN 81-20&50 needed to be revised accordingly. This task is about to come to end.

One specific item was, on request of the EU Commission, to revise the Annex ZA, giving the links between the Essential Safety Requirements of the Lifts Directive with the corresponding clauses in the harmonized standard.

This non-technical revision affects all the EN 81- standards, including EN 81-20 & 50 themselves, leading to a new edition, mainly 2018.

Therefore as lifts industry we need a defined transitory period for each standard in order to adapt our lift and lift components design to the new conditions. These transitory periods are defined standard by standard on the basis of the ballot expressed by each CEN TC 10 member.

This information is part of the foreword included in each standard.

Unfortunately there have been difficulties with alignment of DOW for two recently published standards, EN 81-28 and EN 81-71. The DOW of those standards has been corrected after the publication. The change has been made in the CEN systems, but the error is present in the published standard. There will not be a new publication of the standard due to this change. When the reference of those standards is published in the OJEU, the date of cessation of presumption of conformity of the old version (DOCOPOCOSS) of those standards will be the same as the DOW in the CEN system.

Below is the overview of the dates:
